I grew up with an apple orchard in my front yard. The apples were harvested by local farmers for years, but eventually my parents took the orchard out of production due to concerns over unpredictable pesticide spraying. The trees grew wild, limbs unchecked, apples covered in scale. Then a couple years ago, my parents cut down all the apples trees and replaced them with a field of solar panels. I photographed the trees to say goodbye and then photographed the solar panels to say hello. I was sad to see the trees go, but now my parents harvest the sun.
