There is a moment in the lives of many young adults when we have moved out of parental and institutional spaces to pursue our own ambitions. We end up living in small, often one room spaces while we are trying to discover who we are becoming. This turbulent and transitory time fuels both creativity and frustration. Each young individual carries their belongings from apartment to apartment and must re-create their environment each time, yearly acting out the process of home-making upon the white-box apartment.
I use the multi-panel structure of the images to expand ordinary spaces into broad tableaus and to call traditional conceptions of perspective into question. This form invites the viewer to examine the subjects' environments and belongings, but also to consider how the subject shapes their surroundings, and how they present themselves to those who enter into their home.
